It's a very simple autumn recipe. Don't add any sugar it's perfect as it is.
Ingredients
- 3 apples and 3 pears
- 6 cardamom pods
- 250 ml water
- 1 cinnamon stick (about 6 cm)
- 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
- ½ lemon
Directions
- Step 1 Crush the cardamom pods to release the seeds and grind them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle. Mix this powder with lemon juice, then add the grated lemon zest and ginger. Pour everything into a saucepan with 250 ml of water and the cinnamon stick, and bring to a gentle heat. Peel and cut the apples into quarters, adding them to the liquid as you go. Do the same with the pears. Once the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, until the pears are tender.
- Step 2 Serve the compote warm or chilled in small bowls. You can accompany it with dry cookies or biscuits.
